10.NUMBER OF RAILWAY ACCIDENTS

2017 was not good for Indian railway as many accident took place in 2017, from Kuneru train derailment on 21 Jan 2017 to Vasco-Da Gama Patna Express on 24 Nov 2017. In many accidents several people lost their life and many were Injured. Almost 8 big rail accidents took place in 2017 in which around 60 lost their life and more than 200 were Injured. Due to Increase in accidents railway minister Suresh Prabhu was very much criticised by opposition leaders and at last he resigned taking full responsibility.

9.U-17 FIFA WORLD CUP IN INDIA

The FIFA U-17 world cup was the 17 U-17 world cup .The tournament was organized by FIFA and took place between 6 October to 28 October

2017.It was the first time India was hosting any FIFA tournament. Hosting such a big event was a big boost to the football development in the country.Twenty -four teams , managed to qualify for the tournament.England defeated Spain in the final match to clinch the title.

8.FARMERS PROTESTS

Thousands of farmers gathered at Ramlila Maidan on 20 Nov 2017 from different organisation with a common demand i.e complete waiver of farmers Loan and fair price of their crops.

On June 6 2017 in Madhya Pradesh Farmers protests got converted into violent and many Public property was destroyed.

Many such protest took place in 2017 in India.

7.RISING POLLUTION LEVEL IN COUNTRY

In year 2017 pollution in Indian cities rose to dangerous levels with national capital Delhi leading the chart. The PM2.5 and PM10 reached 300 and 500 respectively throughout the last month of year 2017. Though to control pollution the Supreme court banned the sale of firecrackers in NCR throughout the Diwali season.

6.MILITARY CONFLICTS WITH CHINA

In 2017 China India border standoff or Doklam standoff due to construction of road in Doklam by China. On 16 June 2017 Chinese troops with construction vehicles started extending road in Doklam plateau. On 18 June 2017 India 270 Indian troops entered Doklam to stop the Chinese troops. After 10 week military standoff with china both withdrew their troops to erase standoff.

5.ASSASSINATION OF GAURI LANKESH

Gauri Lankesh was an Indian journalist from Bangalore. She was the editor of Lankesh Patrike a kannada weekly started by her father. She was brutally assassinated by unknown assassins outside her home on 5 September 2017. She was Known to be critics of right wing Hindu extremism, and opposed caste based discrimination. The murder was condemned by several people and organisation.

4.GOODS AND SERVICES TAX

Goods and Services Tax (GST) has replaced many Indirect Taxes in India. It was passed in the Parliament on 29th March 2017 and came into effect on 1 July 2017 with intense political debate threatening its Implementation for months. In pre-GST system tax on tax was calculated and paid by every purchasers. GST avoids this tax on tax system.GST is aimed to accelerate growth of GDP.

3.ELECTION OF PRESIDENT AND VICE-PRESIDENT

On 20 July 2017, Ram Nath Kovind was elected as 14th Indian President by defeating the opposition's candidate Meira kumar former Lok Sabha speaker. Ram Nath Kovind was 35th Governor of Bihar and was member of Rajya Sabha from Uttar Pradesh (1994-2006).

M Venkaiah Naidu, the candidate of BJP was elected as 13th Vice-President defeating the opposotion's candidate, Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

He got 516 votes out of 785.

2.TRIPLE TALAQ DECLARED ILLEGAL

In August 2017, the Supreme court of India declared Instant Triple Talaq unconstitutional and asked government to make law against it. The court acted on a plea filled by petitioners which included Shayara Bano, Ishrat Jahan, Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan and Atiya Sabri. After multiple hearing the practise was declared null and void by the Supreme court.

At the end of the year 2017 government tabled the historical bill which makes Triple Talaq void and also a crime.

1.ISR0 MAKES INDIA PROUD (104 NOT OUT)

Indian Space research Organisation (ISRO) created record with the successful launch of a record 104 satellites in one go. It was performed on the old reliable launch vehicles PSLV from Satish Dhawan Space Station, Sriharikota on 15 Feb 2017. Out of 104 satellites, 96 belonged to US and each one from Israel,UAE,Netherlands,Switzerland and Kazakhstan. Russian Space Agency held a record of launching 37 satellites in one go in June 2014.
